The Legere Legacy
Overview
The Legeres are a wealthy and respected family. The Legacy is the name used to describe the peculiar gifts given to the females of the line. For four hundred years the females of the family, from their start in the Caribe tribe and African slaves on the isle of Martinique to their current Belle-Reve compound outside New Orleans, have exercised their Legacy for the greater good. In keeping with the traditions of the Legacy, the females of the line keep the Legere name.
Now a new generation of Legeres takes center stage, the progeny of current matriarch Arielle Legere and her Romanian parapsychologist husband, Stefan Antonescu: Nicolette, twins Mala and Melita, and twins Darien and Derek Anton, the first males of the Legere line to inherit the Legacy.

Nicolette Legere, First Daughter
Book One: Dream of Shadows
Nicole Legere spent her childhood wishing she'd been born Normal, instead of First Daughter to the most powerful psychic on the planet. Her gift from the Legacy makes her a Dreamer, the first Dreamer born into the Legere family in three hundred years. She receives visions in her dreams, as sporadic as they are, but three consecutive Dreams sets the pattern, and the visions inevitably come true. Nicole left the family compound in Louisiana after a disastrous first marriage. Settling with her daughter in Atlanta, Nicole feels her dream of a normal life are finally coming true. When she's upset, Nicole tends to overclean.
Darien Legere Antonescu
Book Two: A Trick of Shadows, coming Fall 2008!
Darien Antonescu has a problem with trust. The world-famous magic show he puts on with his twin brother sells out every night mainly because of the phenomenal feats they do. Those feats are made possible thanks to the Legere Legacy, a legacy of paranormal powers no male of the line has ever possessed. Darien spends his free time visiting the sick and the old, or keeping to himself with his animals, whom he trusts more than he trusts people. Darien's gift from the Legacy is psychokinesis, the ability to create motion in objects with his mind, and telepathy. To settle his mind, Darien likes to take his white Tiger, Baru, out for a hunt.
Derek Legere Antonescu
Book Five: A Chase of Shadows
Derek Antonescu loves beguiling people with his gifts of legerdemain, touring the world with his twin brother as one of the hottest magic acts around. Derek jealously guards the secrets behind their success: the Legere Legacy. Like his brother, his gift from the Legacy is telekinesis, the ability to move things with his mind. Derek has seen the toll the Legacy has taken on his siblings' love lives, and he has no plans to suffer the same fate. Derek would say protecting his siblings means that he doesn't have time to have a hobby. But his protective streak gets him into trouble at times, especially when it comes to protecting someone who doesn't want to be protected.
Malita Legere
Book Three: A Sense of Shadows
Malita Legere is an empath, sensitive to the emotions of others. She's used her gifts to create harmonious interior designs and landscapes with her husband Riyo. She's always been the dependable, serene one of all her siblings, accepting her abilities long after the others were still fighting theirs. When her husband dies unexpectedly, Malita blames her family for not warning her and takes off. She spends a couple of years wandering around the country, until her cooking skills land her in a bed and breakfast in Savannah.
Mala Legere
Book Four: A Touch of Shadows
Mala Legere hasn't been able to touch another human being since she was sixteen without being overwhelemed by their thoughts, desires, and emotions. When not helping her father with his research, she makes a living as a paranormal investigator, all the while wishing for someone she could touch with immunity.
Arielle Legere, Matriarch
From birth, Arielle Legere was steeped in the history and responsibility of the Legacy. Thrust into leading the sprawling Legère holdings at eighteen, Aurielle learned quickly how to hold her family and the Legacy together, mending divisions and strife through diplomacy and exercising her psychic abilities. Being kidnapped by Stefan Antonescu was the best thing that ever happened to her.
Stefan Antonescu, Parapsychologist
Stefan Antonescu is a world-reknowned parapsychologist currently compiling the history of the Legere Legacy. He became a parapsychologist to break a curse that struck the males of his family before their thirtieth birthday.

History of the Legacy
The Legacy began more than 400 years ago with an ancestor named Anika on the west coast of Africa. From their time as slaves in Martinique to free people in New Orleans after the Civil War and beyond, the Legere women have been charged with using their gifts for the greater good. Most Legere women have been teachers, healers, artists. A select few, like Mala, have been chosen to use their skills in a more direct way.
