My Sexy Saturday: Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween, readers! For this All Hallows Eve edition of My Sexy Saturday, I’m sharing a seven paragraph excerpt from Hunting the Jackal. These jackal shifters serve the Egyptian god Anubis and protect the living from the dead–especially the dead who don’t want to stay that way.

Hunting the Jackal cover

Amarie is new to the Atlanta clan and has been living with mates Rashon and Kurik for the last six months. After a brush with death, Rashon is ready for him and Kurik to make a move and form a triad with their skittish roomate. But what does Amarie think?

Rashon kissed her. He’d kissed her! And not just a light, sisterly peck, but a breath-stealing, toe-curling mesh of mouths. She would have excused it as a momentary confusion on his part, something he wasn’t aware he was doing except that they’d been mid-discussion, and she’d kissed him back like her life had depended on it. Then he’d kissed Kurik, and then—

She wrenched the shower on, her senses still reeling. Why? Why would Rashon kiss her like, like she was his partner? From what she knew, he and Kurik had been together for most of a century. In all that time, neither had been with anyone else, male or female. Since she’d become their roommate, neither had treated her as anything other than a valued member of the clan, an act that had eased the trauma she’d suffered before being banished from her home clan. The easy camaraderie and chaste puppy piles on the couch during martial arts movie marathons sowed the seeds of loyalty, friendship and a fierce caring and protective streak. She would do anything for Rashon and Kurik.

Now, she wondered if she’d damaged that friendship. She’d done her best to appear asexual in order to keep the unattached male jackals off her scent. The last thing she wanted was to make the other men think she was interested in sex, much less a relationship.

Pausing as she toweled herself dry, she skated her fingers over her lips. Rashon had kissed her and she’d returned it. Besides leaving her confused, it left her wanting more. Wanting what she couldn’t have. Wanting him.

Rashon heightened her awareness as no one else had before, from the smooth bronze of his skin to the teasing glint in his liquid copper eyes to the open warmth of his personality. He was like the bright dawn sun, chasing nighttime fears away. Kurik, on the other hand, was the strength of the noon sun as it began its descent. Large, well-muscled golden skin with a shock of hair they called “Seti-red,” Kurik had been right there beside him. Rashon had to know that his lover, his partner, his mate, was beside him on the bed. It didn’t make sense for Rashon to reach for her when Kurik was right there. It didn’t make sense for Rashon to reach for her at all. To hold on to her as he’d rolled over, Kurik covering him for one of the hottest kisses she’d ever witnessed.

Gods. Her mind spun as she pulled her hair into a wet ponytail and went in search of clothing. She couldn’t recall when she’d started to be sexually aware of them, much less when she’d started getting curious and aroused. Now all she could think about was seeing them together, watching their bodies sliding together, mouths clashing. Hands gripping, stroking, bringing pleasure. Reaching out to invite her in.

A whimper eased out despite her attempt at control. She wanted that, wanted it with a bone-deep need bordering on desperation.

My Sexy Saturday: Talk Sexy To Me

Welcome to my contribution to the 108th week of My Sexy Saturday!

We know all about talking sexy to me. We know that lovers have a special language that only two of them share. The hidden looks, the longing gaze, the love shining in their eyes all accompanied by those sexy, sexy words. Sometimes, they are whispered, sometimes spoken aloud and occasionally shouted from rooftops. Authors are very good at those sexy conversations. We love sexy and it’s always so fun to share.

Here, for your reading pleasure, are seven paragraphs from Claiming the Jackal, the third novella in my Sons of Anubis jackal shapeshifter series. Here, Hectorr has gone for a swim in the lake to get Rana out of his mind. It’s not working!

Claiming the Jackal*******************************************************************************

“What are you doing here, Rana?” he asked, his voice a silky caress that slid over her senses and stripped her caution.

“I don’t know.”

“Yes you do.” He stopped a few feet away from her, the current between them growing stronger with his nearness. “You usually walk the part of the lake closest to the community house. Perhaps you’re here for the same reason I am, to cool off, to get you out of my thoughts, to cleanse your essence from my senses.”

He gestured to his erection. “Obviously it didn’t work for me. I’m guessing it didn’t work for you either.”

She tried to look him in the eye, she really did. No matter how she tried, her gaze kept drifting down. Even in the encroaching darkness, she could tell his arousal showed no signs of abating. “I couldn’t concentrate on my lab or magical studies, and the community house felt too small and confining. I had to come outside.”

“That’s not all, is it?” His gaze bored into her. “You know exactly why you’re here. Say it.”

“I was drawn here.” She gestured to the space between them. “Drawn to you.”

Despite an end to two thousand years of conflict with the Daughters of Isis, jackal shifter Hector still distrusts the witches. But he cannot deny his growing hunger for Rana, a beautiful and gentle priestess who soothes his anger and awakens his passions as no other ever has.

As a healer, Rana is working tirelessly to find a way to protect the jackals from a deadly curse—and restore the honor of her bloodline. As a woman, she cannot resist surrendering to her desire for Hector, the powerful and virile second in command. But when her secret is revealed, will their new bond be strong enough to survive the truth?

Seressia Glass: My Sexy Saturday

Hello, everyone!

Hunting the Jackal coverNight time is always the right time for something a little sexy! This seven paragraph excerpt is from my novella Hunting the Jackal that was part of Harlequin’s Nocturne Cravings line and the second story of the Sons of Anubis series. Kurik and Rashon are jackal mates who both have desire for their new clanmate, Amarie. Unable to deny her attraction to both, she’s promised them a night of pleasure.  Enjoy!

“We want you,” Rashon said, speaking for both of them. He pushed his plate away. “You promised us a night.”

“I did. And I want it. But—“

Rashon leaned forward, cutting off her words. “Tonight is that night, Amarie. I think it’s time to show you how much we want you.”

“Oh.” Her eyes widened. “But Kurik’s cake…?”

Kurik pulled the bowl of extra frosting closer. Capturing her gaze, he slowly scooped up a finger’s full of the decadent confection. Her lips parted to take his offering, and as much as he would have enjoyed the sensation of her sucking on him, he had other ideas.

He leaned forward, drew a line of chocolate frosting down the hollow between her breasts. “Ah, damn, I’ve got frosting on you. Rashon, can you help me out?”

“My pleasure.”

Making Plans and Apologies

So excited to be headed to New York for the Romance Writers of America national conference. Normally I don’t go every year, but NYC’s conference will always be a must-attend for me.

This is my first time sitting on an RWA panel– 50 Shades of Love: Writing the Multicultural Romance (RESEARCH) which will be at 2pm on Friday. There are two other multicultural panels this year as well, both are on Thursday.

  • Diversity in Romance: Why it Matters (WRITER’S LIFE) will be at 9:45
  • Multicultural Romance: When Keeping It Real Goes Wrong, and How to Make it Right (CAREER) at 3:15

This year, my focus is on career building and my production schedule. I have only one indie project this year (Prescription for Love, in the 12 Alphas 12 Months anthology that released earlier this month.) It is a sequel of sorts to Three Wishes and my goal is to expand it so that I can release it and Nick and Maya’s wedding story, Four Hearts, together.

It was my intention to release these this year, but sometimes life happens, which it did late last year/earlier this year. I had a delay in finishing the contracted book for the Sugar and Spice, which pushed everything back by four months. Which meant my indie projects have to give. Not the contracted stuff, not the day job stuff, but the things you’ve been asking me for. For that, I’m sorry.

So where do things stand? I have one more contracted book for the Sugar and Spice series, NAUGHTY. I really enjoy writing about these friends and their issues with various forms of addiction and recovery, and I hope I can write more of them. We’ll see when I work on the proposal after turning in book 3. Once I turn that book and the proposal in, I plan to work on expanding PRESCRIPTION FOR LOVE . I also plan on working on SHADOW HUNT and the true sequel to Three Wishes which is FOUR HEARTS. Someone asked about Sons of Anubis. I would love to continue those stories too. I’ve planned another three in that series, but now I’m wondering is I could/should do some crossover with the Shadowchaser series.

Anyway, that’s where I am, and why I’m heading to New York to learn, to recharge, and put the pedal to the floor. Thanks to all of you for your patience and support!

“There, that should do it.” Rana smoothed the bandage in place, then smiled up at the jackal shifter. “You can take the wrap off tomorrow morning and apply the ointment again. After lunch, feel free to shift.”

“Thank you, priestess.” The young jackal smiled, holding his bandaged forearm. “It feels better already. You surely have a magical touch.”

“You’re welcome,” she said, grabbing her chart to make a few final notes. The young guard—at least, he seemed young—had entered the infirmary with a six inch gash in his arm, given to him by another guard during combat training. “How long does it normally take you to heal from your wounds when you shift into your jackal form?”

“Well, usually—” Suddenly he stiffened, eyes widening. A whimper seeped from his throat as he dropped his gaze.

Concerned with his abrupt change in demeanor, Rana reached out to touch his carotid artery. “Are you all right?”

Power rolled through the infirmary a split second before a warning growl did. Rana dropped her hand, suppressing a shiver as she recognized the distinctive signature of the magical energy weighing down the air. He was here.

She turned to see Hector, the jackals’ second-in-command, filling the doorway. The large jackal growled again. “Remain away from your post for much longer and I can guarantee you will be in desperate need of a healer.”

The words were soft, almost negligent, but only a fool would ignore the threat woven in them. The young guard was no fool. “My apologies, captain, I’ll return straightaway.” He beat a hasty retreat, Hector’s glower boring into him.

The shifter captain stepped into the exam room, turning the full weight of his silvery-green gaze to Rana. She stopped, stared, her duties forgotten.

Hector was stunning—in looks, in effect. Six feet, three inches of solid, sleek muscle, olive skin highlighting his Greek-Egyptian heritage, and gray-green eyes beneath thick brows and dark brown hair that seemed perpetually wind-tossed. She knew that he was roughly two thousand years old, and his power was potent, heady.

Awareness tingled along her nerve endings, awareness of him. Every time she saw him, her breath caught in her throat, her blood heated and her palms grew damp. A month into her stay at the jackal compound and she was still struck mute by his nearness. He made her feel like a girl in the first blush of womanhood, not a priestess over three hundred years old.

Most of the Sons of Anubis were politely distant in a could-rip-your-throat-out sort of way. They all seemed fiercely protective and focused on their duties, something that she, a Daughter of Isis, could appreciate.

Hector, however, was…more. Large and lethal, he radiated danger and intensity even when standing still. The infirmary, six large beds and two cages flanked by new state-of-the-art equipment, seemed too small to contain the full force of his energy. She only had to look at him to know that he fiercely committed to everything he did and accepted nothing less than a successful outcome.

He wore a simple white t-shirt and dark cargo pants, but on him they were a king’s raiment. The white cotton emphasized his broad shoulders, defined arms, taut abs. Isis have mercy.

Here’s the cover for Claiming the Jackal, Sons of Anubis #3!  I <3 this cover so hard, and there’s a scene at a lake that’s pretty damn hot in my opinion!

Insane in the Membrane, aka the Midyear Check-in

Young Woman Thinking --- Image by © Royalty-Free/Corbis

Young Woman Thinking — Image by © Royalty-Free/Corbis

With June gone in a haze blaze, it seemed like a good idea to take stock of where I am and reassess where I plan to go.

This time last year, I hadn’t had anything published in a year. I didn’t publish anything at all in 2012 and was determined to sell something new before the year was out. Before summer 2012 ended, I had a contract for three novellas with Harlequin’s Nocturne Cravings, and the other me sold a historical romance to Samhain.

In the first six months of this year, I’ve seen two of my novellas published: Seducing the Jackal and Hunting the Jackal from the Sons of Anubis series. My alter ego, Mallery Malone, saw Devil’s Angel, an Irish medieval romance, released in April. (It’s awesome. You should go buy it and tell your friends to get it too!) November will see the third jackal novella, Claiming the Jackal, released.

I’m thrilled to pieces with that. I know that I can’t do that whole resting on my laurels thing. For one, that leads to laziness. For two and most important, that leads to a year like 012. I don’t want to have a year like 2012, with nothing out. So here’s what’s in the pipe to complete/get to proposal status this year.

  1. Proposals for the next three Sons of Anubis stories. While I would love to do a full-length novel with all the action and angst I can throw in, I love writing these novellas. So I have ideas for Aya, the high priestess; Alonso, Hector’s brother; a human female, and possibly a lost Daughter of Isis.
  2. Proposals for spicy contemporary romance project. I’d like to tell you more about it, but I’m playing this one close. It’s two book ideas right now, with a possibility of two more. But they are contemporary romance, the heroine in each are good women who made bad decisions, and there’s a Tuesday Night Survivor’s Club theme. I want this proposal done by the end of July, if not right before RWA2013.
  3. SHADOW HUNT. I’ve been promising this for a long time, and I know people are tired of hearing me say it’s in the pipe. Well, it really is. I posted a 200-word excerpt of it this past Tuesday over on my Facebook Author page. I am going to self-publish it, and my goal is to have it ready for sale and promoting by the time the Coastal Magic conference rolls around in February.
  4. SHADOW FLIGHT. This is a short story that I originally released in the Mammoth Book of Paranormal Romance II under the name The Majestic. I want to expand it a bit and offer it as a limited time freebie prior to the release of Shadow Hunt, because it sets up the story in SH nicely. I’d like to have this one ready to go by Thanksgiving, if not earlier.
  5. THROUGH THE WEDDING. This will be a novella-length sequel to Through The Fire, and will focus on Brandt and Willow as they fall deeper in love and plan their wedding. It will reintroduce you to their friends and family and will kickoff what I hope to be two self-published novella series: THE HUGHES of HAMILTON, and the SERENA BAY series. There are lots of people whom I left hanging in TTF, and they deserve their stories. I hope to have Through the Wedding ready to go by Slam Jam 2014.
  6. AA/IR HISTORICALS? YES PLEASE. So in talking about Slam Jam yesterday, I also talked about this lovely article in the NYT about a black nurse and a German POW who fell in love in Arizona of all places, and I kinda inspired an idea which I tweeted about with an editor, who told me to write it and send it to her. So now I have to. And it revived a series idea I had the last time RWA was in Atlanta, a series I couldn’t get anyone to take interest in because “Beverly Jenkins has the AA historical market on lockdown.” Which Ms. Jenkins herself will tell you is ridiculous, and who buys one book and says, “that’s it, I’m not going to look for anything else in this genre until this author puts another book out”? Yeah. So if someone is actively looking for AA/MC historical romances, and I have ideas for some, you darn tootin’ I’m gonna try to get mine to see the light of day.
  7. Hey, MALLERY WANTS TO WRITE ANOTHER BOOK TOO. I came up with Mallery back in 2006 or so, when I wanted to try my hand at writing spicier stuff, and was curious about epublishing. That novella, LADY SINGS THE BLUES, is still making money, I can’t retire from the day job, but it’s paid a hotel stay here or there. And I left a sequel languishing on my hard drive. And a sequel novella to the Irish medieval wants to see the light of day as well.

So yeah. Twelve projects, half of which are to be self-published, the other half I’m going to try to sell. The proposals have to go out first and he other projects will depend on me selling those and discovering what the completion deadlins are. While they’re being shopped, I’ll be working on my self-publishing stuff. While still writing for the day job.

And you guys thought I was passing time playing Candy Crush Saga. Hah!

Sons of Anubis – Sex Magic!

Sons of Anubis #1

Sons of Anubis #1

It’s almost here! On MONDAY, Seducing the Jackal will be available for your reading pleasure. To entice you to pre-order it now (you’re gonna need something to read on lunch break, right?) I present to you a more intimate interaction between jackal shapeshifter Markus and Isis witch Tia.

Now available for pre-order at AmazonKobo   l  Barnes and Noble | Harlequin

Markus awoke to the best sensation a man could experience: a warm, wet mouth swallowing his cock. He fumbled for the lamp on the nightstand, tapped it on. “Tia, what are you doing?”

She rolled her eyes at him.

“I mean, I know what you’re doing, but why are you doing it?” Are you stupid, man? A beautiful woman is going down on you. Shut the hell up and enjoy it.

She pulled off him with a wet popping sound that was the most erotic thing he’d ever heard. “It was poking me in the back. Since it so obviously needed attention, I decided to give it some.”

“Blessed Anubis, woman.” His hips rose as she swallowed him again. Lust and magic increased, a heady combination he could easily grow addicted to. Probably already was. If this was what being enchanted by an Isis witch meant, he’d gladly surrender to it.

Sex for pleasure’s sake was foreign to him. Throughout the long years of their exile, the jackals’ intimate habits had been focused on survival, and survival meant building their numbers. Every sensual act with the opposite sex was considered a sacred and deliberate thing, always begun with a prayer to Anubis.

This was…freeing. Wildness rose in him, the primal call of male to female. Curling his fingers into the sheets, he gave himself over to sensation. When Tia’s fingers cupped his balls, he nearly whimpered but couldn’t keep silent when her tongue traced over his sac. Buffeted by the need raging through him, he groaned aloud, helpless against the sensual magic she wove.

All too soon he could feel it, the urge to come surging up from his toes. No, gods damn it! Not yet. “Tia.”

Relief and disappointment met as she pulled her sweet mouth away. “Yeah?”

He struggled for words as her fingers stroked him. “Condom. On me. Now.”

Her throaty chuckle almost undid him. She crawled to the head of the bed, dropping a searing kiss on him before reaching for one of the foil packets on the nightstand. Thank Isis she had a whole box of them in her go-bag.

She straddled his thighs, dark eyes fixed on him as she tore the pouch open with her teeth. Fingers wrapping around his cock, she stroked him, strong, steady pulls with a twist over the head just the way he liked it but made better by her touch, her magic. His cock swelled anew, hard for her, hungry for her.

“Ride me,” he demanded as she sheathed him. His fingers dug into her hips, muscles flexing as he lifted her. “Ride me.”

She reached between them to guide his hardness to her opening, dragging his sheathed cock along her slit to coat it in her wetness. Keeping her gaze locked to his, she sank down even as he thrust up, fusing them together.

She threw her head back on a groan, the dusky copper of her nipples capturing his gaze. “Gods, that feels incredible. I can barely breathe.” She squeezed him.

He let her go, digging his fingers into the sheets again in an effort to hold back, to wrestle for a shred of control. The fabric ripped as his nails elongated.

Her eyes rounded. “Are you shifting?”

“No.” He mangled the word, his sharpened teeth getting in the way.
